What's In It For Us?

We all want to live in a city that is clean, safe and healthy. In Ward 14 Parkdale High Park we have two of the cities’ greatest natural assets, namely High Park and Lake Ontario. Over the past few years we have seen increasing development along the lakefront including the controversial parking plan for the Lakeshore Drive boulevard. We have also seen the development of a condominium located at the north west corner of High Park.

Into the future we will have to commit to increased housing density and it is my belief that any such further development along the borders of High Park should be completely discouraged. Further I would suggest that any future high density development be contingent on comprehensive environmental and traffic studies being completed.

Revitalizing Lost Spaces

Ward 14 Parkdale High Park has one of the highest apartment densities in the city. Most of these residents are denied the use of a yard or balcony space to grow gardens during the summer months. I would like to utilize brown spaces and undeveloped lots to allow these residents to plant flowers and vegetables and to organize local community members to set up and oversee a system to make the best use of such areas.

"My hope is that 10 years from now, after I've been across the street at work for a while, they'll all be glad they gave me that wonderful vote."

Sandra Day O'Connor
